What this tool does

Supertrend is a single ATR-based trailing line that shows whether a market is in an up-trend or a down-trend. When a close crosses the line the direction flips, and while the trend holds the line trails price and serves as a stop reference. This tool draws Supertrend on live Binance candles and shows, on one screen, the selected coin's past flips with statistics and the current direction of the 30 most-traded coins.

How it is calculated

ATR is the true range (the largest of high − low, |high − previous close| and |low − previous close|) smoothed with Wilder's method (RMA, seeded with a simple average) over 7, 10 or 14 bars (default 10). The basic bands are (high + low) / 2 ± factor × ATR, with a factor of 2, 3 or 4 (default 3). The lower band only moves when the new value is higher or the previous close fell below it; otherwise it keeps its previous value. The upper band works the other way round. In a down-trend, a close above the upper band flips the trend up; in an up-trend, a close below the lower band flips it down. The line is the lower band in an up-trend and the upper band in a down-trend, the same formula as TradingView's built-in Supertrend. The chart uses the latest 1,000 bars, skips the first (ATR period × 5) bars as warm-up and counts flips and statistics on closed bars only. Segment move = close of the next flip bar ÷ close of the flip bar − 1. The mechanical follow is long only: buy at the next bar's open after a bullish flip, sell at the next bar's open after a bearish flip, with a 0.1% fee per fill. The scanner applies the same settings to the latest 500 bars of the top 30 USDT pairs by 24h volume; distance to line = (line on the forming bar ÷ current price − 1) × 100. The chart refreshes every 30 seconds and the scanner every 3 minutes.

Reading the screen, section by section

Top bar: coin, timeframe, ATR period, factor

The coin list is the 60 Binance spot USDT markets with the largest 24-hour turnover; timeframes are 15m, 1H, 4H, 1D and 1W (4H at first); the ATR period is 7, 10 or 14 (10 at first); the factor is 2, 3 or 4 (3 at first). Changing the coin or timeframe downloads 1000 chart bars again, and a new timeframe also makes the scanner reload all 30 coins. ATR period and factor recalculate the chart, flip history and scanner at once from the candles already loaded, with no new requests. "Scanner" on the right jumps down to the scanner. Settings go into the address bar so a link reopens the same view. A lower factor keeps the line close to price and flips more often; a higher one keeps it farther away and flips less. Neither is correct as such; compare them on the same coin.

Chart: trend line, flip markers, pending flip

The Supertrend line is drawn as a separate segment for each trend run: under price in up-trends and over price in down-trends, in different colors, with a new segment starting at each flip bar so the two never join. The line runs through the forming bar. Flips that happened on closed bars get "Bullish flip" or "Bearish flip" markers, and when the forming bar is already on the other side of the line an accent-colored circle shows "Pending flip". The dashed "ST" line on the price axis is the line's value on the forming bar. The chart opens on the latest 220 bars (120 on phones), and the first (ATR period × 5) bars are a warm-up while ATR settles, so no line is drawn there. A pending flip can disappear before the bar closes; if it holds at the close it becomes a regular flip marker.

Current state numbers

The five tiles are price, trend, Supertrend line, move since the flip and ATR. Trend is the direction on the last closed bar, with how many bars since the flip and when it happened underneath (or "held for N+ bars" if there is no flip in the calculated range). The Supertrend line tile shows the value of the line that would end the current trend on the forming bar (the lower band in an up-trend, the upper band in a down-trend), its distance from price and that distance in multiples of ATR. It moves with the forming bar's high, low and ATR until the close, but in an up-trend it never drops below the previous bar's line. Move since the flip compares price with the flip bar's close, and ATR is the last closed bar's value, as % of price, with the band width (factor × ATR). KRW multiplies by Bithumb's USDT/KRW rate as a reference.

Reading sentence

The box under the numbers opens with when the trend flipped, which way, and how many bars ago. If the forming bar is on the other side of the line, it says a close there would confirm the flip and a return before the close would keep the trend; otherwise it says how far below or above price the line sits and that a close beyond it would flip the trend. If the distance to the line is under 0.5 × ATR, that is added. When there are at least three completed segments in the same direction, the current segment's length is compared with their average. The text describes the rule's present state; "longer than average" does not mean it is about to end.

Flip history numbers

Counted over closed bars after the warm-up. Under the flip count you see how many bars that covers and roughly how many hours, days or months. "Up-trends that ended higher" is the share of completed up-trend segments whose next flip bar closed above the bullish flip bar's close; the average up-trend and down-trend moves use the same segment change, with the average length in bars. "Followed mechanically" buys at the open of the bar after a bullish flip and sells at the open of the bar after a bearish flip, takes 0.1% per fill and never shorts. Shown with it are buy-and-hold over the same span, the number of closed trades, the share that closed at a profit and the maximum drawdown. All of these measure past segments for this coin, timeframe and setting, and they recalculate instantly when you change the setting.

Flip history table

Lists flips newest first, one row each. Tap a flip time to move the chart around that bar and scroll up to the chart card. Flip price is the close of the closed bar that confirmed the flip. The top segment, still running, is marked "ongoing" and its change uses the last closed bar's close, so the forming bar's movement is not included; for the same reason it can differ slightly from "Since the flip" above, which uses the current price. The table is redrawn on every 30-second refresh, but a new row appears only when a bar closes and a flip is confirmed.

  • To next flip: next flip bar's close ÷ flip bar's close − 1
  • Max run: the furthest move in the trend's direction from the bar after the flip to the end of the segment (highs for up-trends, lows for down-trends)
  • Length: number of bars the segment lasted

Supertrend scanner

Runs the same timeframe, ATR period and factor as the chart on the 30 Binance spot USDT markets with the largest 24-hour turnover (excluding stablecoins, wrapped and tokenized-stock tokens, and markets with no trade for over an hour). It loads the latest 500 bars per coin and fills rows as results arrive, with loaded/total in the header. Filters are All, Up-trend, Down-trend and Just flipped (within 3 bars of the flip); tap #, 24h, Since flip, Move since flip or Distance to line to sort (distance sorts nearest first). "Since flip" counts the closed flip bar as bar 1, and coins whose forming bar has crossed the line get a "Pending flip" tag. It refreshes every 3 minutes, so its price and distance can lag the chart above by up to 3 minutes. Tap a row to open that coin in the chart.

Keeping it open

Every 30 seconds the chart downloads only the latest 5 bars and swaps in the tail (if they no longer connect after a long pause, everything is reloaded); the scanner and KRW rate refresh every 3 minutes. Both pause while the tab is hidden and refresh as soon as you return. A quick scan order: does the sentence mention the forming bar, how many ATRs away the line is, the update time, then the scanner's Just flipped filter. Flips are confirmed only when a bar closes, so on 4H the minutes around each close are the most telling. Keep a second window on the next longer timeframe, or open an automatic support and resistance tool or a volume profile tool beside it, to check the price where the line sits from another angle.

  • Every 30 s: latest 5 chart bars, current state, sentence, flip history
  • Every 3 min: scanner's 30 coins and the KRW rate
  • When a bar closes: flips confirmed; a pending flip becomes a marker or disappears

Things to know

Frequently asked questions

Does it match TradingView's Supertrend?

It uses the same formula (default ATR period 10, factor 3). TradingView calculates from a coin's first listed bar, while this tool uses the latest 1,000 bars (500 in the scanner), so ATR and band values can differ slightly over the first few dozen bars. That is why the first (ATR period × 5) bars are treated as warm-up and not counted. After that, flips land on the same bars in almost all cases. Prices on other exchanges differ slightly, which can also change the values.

A flip appeared and then vanished.

Price keeps moving on the bar still forming, so if it closes beyond the line and then comes back, the flip disappears. This tool calculates direction, flip history and statistics on closed bars only, and marks a forming bar that has crossed the line separately as 'Pending flip'.

How should I choose the ATR period and factor?

A smaller factor keeps the line closer to price, so flips come earlier and more often, with more whipsaws. A larger factor reacts later but flips less often. A shorter ATR period responds faster to recent volatility. The flip history and statistics recalculate immediately when you change a setting, so compare them on the same coin.

Which coins does the scanner cover, and how often?

The 30 Binance spot USDT pairs with the highest 24h quote volume, excluding stablecoins and wrapped tokens. It uses the same timeframe, ATR period and factor as the chart and reloads every 3 minutes. KRW prices are USDT prices multiplied by Bithumb's USDT/KRW rate, a reference only.

How is the 'Followed mechanically' return calculated?

It buys at the open of the bar after a confirmed bullish flip and sells at the open of the bar after a confirmed bearish flip. A 0.1% fee is deducted on every buy and sell, there is no shorting, and an open trade is valued at the last close. Buy-and-hold return over the same range, win rate and maximum drawdown are shown alongside as a summary of past data.
